Linda Cohen joined Hanley & Associates, P.A. in 1998 from her legal practice in Washington state. Linda’s distinguished career includes positions as the City Attorney for a Washington municipality; Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Criminal Division of the Prosecutor’s office in Seattle, Washington; General Counsel to United States Senator Robert Kasten; Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative Rod Chandler; Judicial Law Clerk to Washington State Appellate Judge Walter Webster; and Associate at the corporate law firm of Taft, Stettinius, & Hollister.
As an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Linda spent most of her career on a trial team prosecuting robberies, murders, assaults, burglaries, and other felonies. Linda served as a trial attorney for the sexual assault unit and was assigned the prosecution of cases involving sexual assaults and physical abuse of children. Linda was also selected and accepted the distinction and designation as the “Omnibus Drug Deputy” pursuant to Washington legislation, where she trained prosecutors in surrounding counties. While City Attorney, Linda drafted legislation to curb crimes associated with and facilitated by adult entertainment establishments and associated organized crime.
Linda’s practice at Hanley & Associates largely consists of personal injury cases, general litigation including collection matters, contested probate and estate cases and a variety of other matters. Linda successfully serves as Personal Representative on various estates. Linda is ever vigilant of her clients’ best interests and tailors Powers of Attorney to fit clients’ needs whether for their healthcare needs or financial protection. Linda also advocates for the best interests of children through the legal system. Linda serves clients in Oxford, Androscoggin, Cumberland, and York Courts.
Linda graduated summa cum laude from Ohio State University and received her juris doctor degree from George Washington University, The National Law Center, where she received various honors and scholarships. Over the years, Linda has served several non-profit corporations locally, out of state, and internationally. Linda was selected as 1 of 8 delegates representing the American Council for Young Political Leaders attending a program in Hungary in May of 1996 and she escorted the American delegation to Vietnam in November of 1997.
